MOURNING the death of Scott Brown, acclaimed
reporter, distinguished citizen and devoted member
of his community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York who have helped shape the history of
broadcasting in their area; and

WHEREAS, Scott Brown of Buffalo, New York passed away on Friday,
March 31, 2017, at the age of 59; and

WHEREAS, Born in West Orange, New Jersey, Scott Brown moved to
Western New York to study broadcast journalism and political science at
SUNY Buffalo; and

WHEREAS, Upon graduation, Scott Brown started working at WEBR radio
and in 1982, began his tenure at WGRZ; and

WHEREAS, Known as a "red coat", Scott Brown was famous for asking
difficult questions during his coverage of politics and elections,
earning himself a reputation as a savvy political commentator; and

WHEREAS, During his time away from broadcasting, Scott Brown worked
as a spokesperson for Erie County Executive Dennis T. Gorski and New
York State Attorney General Eliot L. Spitzer; and

WHEREAS, One of the best investigative reporters in Buffalo, Scott
Brown's commitment to excellence, and his spirit of humanity, carried
over into all fields of enterprise, including charitable and civic
endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Commenting on numerous reports over the years, Scott Brown
is best known for his dedicated efforts on behalf of wrongfully
convicted Buffalo woman Lynn DeJac Peters, and the tenure of Amherst
Supervisor Satish Mohan; and

WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his
community, Scott Brown was the recipient of three Murrow Awards for his
reporting, and countless New York State Emmys; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Scott Brown hosted a series on Channel 2
entitled "Niagara Falls: A Tale of Two Cities"; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by his parents, Martin and Marilyn Brown, Scott
Brown is survived by siblings and many loving friends; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Scott Brown leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; and

WHEREAS, Scott Brown had, throughout his career and purposeful life,
served his community with integrity and devotion, and strived to meet

the needs of his listeners through entertainment and enlightenment; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Scott Brown, acclaimed reporter, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of his community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Scott Brown.
