HONORING Melodie Baker upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2017 Athena Young
Professional Leadership Award by Athena
International
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire
State with their strong contributions to the community and model
citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Melodie Baker upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
2017 Athena Young Professional Leadership Award by Athena International;
and
WHEREAS, Athena Young Professional Award program was founded in
2007, by Athena International, to honor emerging women leaders ages 30
to 45, who demonstrate excellence, creativity and initiative in their
business or profession, provide valuable service by contributing time
and energy to improving the lives of others in the community, and
clearly serve as a role model for young women personally and
professionally; and
WHEREAS, Melodie Baker is the Director of Education for the United
Way of Buffalo and Erie County; in this capacity, she is responsible for
the design and implementation of education platform, strategic plans,
coalition building, product development, grants and budgets and
investments, as well as, supporting 26 school districts in Erie County;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her professional and
community service, a period of constructive involvement, Melodie Baker
has stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and has earned the
respect and admiration of her colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Melodie Baker upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the 2017 Athena Young Professional Leadership Award by Athena
International; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Melodie Baker.
