MOURNING the death of Ann Holland Cohn,
philanthropist, distinguished citizen and devoted
member of her community

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Ann Holland Cohn of Buffalo, New York, died on March 25,
2017, at the age of 90; and

WHEREAS, A proud member of the Jewish Community Center on Delaware
Avenue in Buffalo, Ann Holland Cohn and her family bequeathed a large
fund to save the center; with her efforts, the community center started
to thrive once again and was able to keep its doors open and provide a
hub for the Jewish community in Buffalo; for the Holland's generosity,
the Jewish Community Center named a building in their honor; and

WHEREAS, Ann Holland Cohn's commitment to excellence, and her spirit
of humanity, carried over into all fields of enterprise, including
charitable and civic endeavors; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to her community, Ann Holland Cohn held numerous
titles in various organizations including President of the Rosa Coplon
Home from 1978-1980, President of Jewish Federation of Greater Buffalo
from 1984-1986, President of the Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies;
in addition, she was a member of the Board of the Buffalo Seminary and
the Buffalo American Red Cross; and

WHEREAS, Ann Holland Cohn was also a member of the local Hospice
Foundation's Board of Directors in the mid-1990s, supported the capital
campaign to build the Hospice Mitchell Campus in Cheektowaga, New York,
and established an endowment fund in her name in 1996; and

WHEREAS, Predeceased by her husband of 42 years, George A. Cohn and
son Kenneth Cohn, Ann Holland Cohn is survived by her son, Thomas, two
daughters, Martha Claussen and Erica; and seven grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Ann Holland Cohn leaves behind a legacy which will long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
she served and befriended; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Ann Holland Cohn, philanthropist, distinguished
citizen and devoted member of her community; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Ann Holland Cohn.
