COMMENDING Sister Patricia Ann St. John upon the
occasion of her designation for special recognition
by St. Joseph's Provincial House on May 13, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor and
recognize those skilled and dedicated individuals, who have inspired
countless students to reach their academic and artistic goals through
positive direction, and whose dedication and achievements have been
instrumental in developing character and academic excellence in the
young people of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Sister Patricia Ann St. John upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by St. Joseph's Provincial House, to
be feted at an event on Saturday, May 13, 2017; and

WHEREAS, St. Joseph's Provincial House will also celebrate the
Carondelet Music Center for its 25 years of providing music lessons and
appreciation to hundreds of children and adults in the Capital District;
and

WHEREAS, A native of Troy, New York, Sister Patricia Ann St. John
has served as a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for the past 34
years; she earned her bachelor's degree from The College of Saint Rose,
and her master's degree from Syracuse University; she furthered her
education by obtaining her doctorate degree from Columbia University;
and

WHEREAS, A classically trained pianist, Sister Patricia Ann St. John
has taught both music and piano lessons, and held the position of Music
Director in parishes in the Syracuse and Albany areas as well as at the
RPI Chapel and Cultural Center; she was also the Director of the Music
for All Ages Program at The College of Saint Rose; and

WHEREAS, In 1992, Sister Patricia Ann St. John founded the
Carondelet Music Center, located at St. Joseph's Provincial House, in
Latham, New York, to share the love of music through individual music
lessons and group music classes to persons in the Capital District; and

WHEREAS, Each year, the Center has been named a Maestro Program in
Kindermusik, a designation which marks it as one of the top five percent
of Kindermusik programs worldwide; through Sister Patricia Ann St.
John's luminous leadership, the Carondelet Music Center has enriched the
lives of literally thousands of individuals in the Capital District; and

WHEREAS, In addition to serving as Executive Director of Carondelet
Music Center, Sister Patricia Ann St. John holds the title of Music
Director at Mater Christi Parish in Albany, and an Adjunct Professor of
music and music education at Columbia University; and

WHEREAS, This talented and beloved woman has been published in
numerous books and journals, and has been the recipient of several

professional grants and awards; she also served as an adjudicator for
the New York State Music Teachers Association; and

WHEREAS, Recently, Sister Patricia Ann St. John was selected as
Chair of the Early Childhood Music Education Commission, an
international organization which promotes music in the lives of young
children by providing a global forum for the exchange of ideas regarding
the various ways in which children may participate in their own musical
culture; currently, she is responsible for organizing the international
seminar for 2018 which will take place in Israel; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay
tribute to those individuals whose commitment and creative talents have
contributed to the entertainment and cultural enrichment of the citizens
of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sister Patricia Ann St. John upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by St. Joseph's Provincial House on
May 13, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sister Patricia Ann St. John.
