HONORING Edward Hallisey upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the New York
State Office for the Aging on May 9, 2017
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Edward
Hallisey upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by
the New York State Office for the Aging at its Annual Older New Yorkers
Day Celebration on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the Hart Theatre Lounge in
the Egg, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; and
WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape
our Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after them may have
better lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Born in New Rochelle, New York, Edward Hallisey proudly
served his country as a member of the United States Navy for eight years
aboard a "tin can" carrier, patrolling the coast of Nova Scotia to the
Caribbean island for enemy submarines; and
WHEREAS, Edward Hallisey was married to the love of his life, Fran,
for more than 50 years, and together, they raised four children; and
WHEREAS, Edward Hallisey worked throughout Brewster and Danbury,
Connecticut, as a civil engineer, and upon retiring, immediately began
his second career as the ultimate volunteer; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, As a life member of the Lake Carmel Fire Department since
1965, Edward Hallisey currently holds a position on the Lake Carmel Fire
Police, and the Putnam County Fire Police Response Team; and
WHEREAS, Known as the man who never says no, Edward Hallisey has
been an active participant of the RSVP Volunteer Medical Transportation
Program for over 10 years, picking up seniors and transporting them to
their medical appointments; and
WHEREAS, Approximately five years ago, Edward Hallisey became a
member of the Friends of the Senior Citizens of Putnam County Board of
Directors; in this capacity, he attends monthly meetings and
participates in numerous events to raise funds for the Office for Senior
Resources; and
WHEREAS, When Edward Hallisey is not helping someone, he loves to
bake; trained at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, he
enjoys baking dessert for over 400 seniors at the Annual Senior Picnic;
and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man truly feels privileged to give back to
his community; his joyful smile lights up a room, and makes everyone
around him happy; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his 52 years of community service, a period of
constructive involvement, Edward Hallisey has stood constant in dignity,
good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his late wife, their four
children, and seven grandchildren, all of whom have shown him love and
support and rejoice in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Edward Hallisey has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, Edward Hallisey, a very active and industrious man, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those he serves through his
volunteerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of
experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Edward Hallisey upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the New York State Office for the Aging on May 9, 2017;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Edward Hallisey.
