HONORING Darcie M. Miller upon the occasion of
being named a 2017 Orange County Woman of
Achievement
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those women of achievement within the Empire State who
have made strong contributions to their communities and who inspire
others through their model citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Darcie M. Miller upon the occasion of being named a 2017 Orange County
Woman of Achievement by the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson and the YWCA
Orange County to be recognized at its 25th Anniversary Celebration on
Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Anthony's Pier 9, New Windsor, New York; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner of the Orange County Department of Social
Services and the Orange County Department of Health, Darcie M. Miller
began her illustrious career as a Rape Crisis Coordinator in Niagara
County; and
WHEREAS, Overcoming much adversity, Darcie M. Miller used the
challenges she faced growing up, watching people she loved battle
addiction and mental health issues, as inspiration to become part of the
solution toward wellness and recovery; and
WHEREAS, Darcie M. Miller began working for Orange County in 2001,
as a staff social worker; she became forensic coordinator in 2004,
working with the population whose lives were complicated by
homelessness, mental illness, developmental disabilities, substance
abuse and ultimately the criminal justice system; and
WHEREAS, While serving as Commissioner for the Department of Mental
Health, Darcie M. Miller was named acting Commissioner for the
Department of Social Services, where she has been instrumental in
carrying out its mission of WELCOME Orange: to provide a hopeful,
welcoming and person-centered approach to meet individuals' needs by
collaborating and connecting people to resources for healthy living; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout has been her husband, James, who has
shown her love and support and rejoices in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes that New York State is the
home to countless women who are strong and colorful threads, vital to
the fabric of our rich heritage, who have contributed, and continue to
add to the advancement of our culture through their traditional and
non-traditional roles in society; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Darcie M. Miller upon the occasion of being named a 2017 Orange
County Woman of Achievement; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Darcie M. Miller.
