HONORING MaryKay Messenger upon the occasion of
being named a 2017 Orange County Woman of
Achievement
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those women of achievement within the Empire State who
have made strong contributions to their communities and who inspire
others through their model citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
MaryKay Messenger upon the occasion of being named a 2017 Orange County
Woman of Achievement by the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson and the YWCA
Orange County to be recognized at its 25th Anniversary Celebration on
Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Anthony's Pier 9, New Windsor, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Newburgh, New York, MaryKay Messenger
began singing at an early age at local Pop Warner games and in local
churches, including as a member of the choir at St. Francis Church; and
WHEREAS, MaryKay Messenger performed as a civilian with the West
Point Military Academy for 15 years before joining the United States
Army in 1996, at the age of 29; she went through basic training and
currently holds the esteemed rank of Master Sergeant; and
WHEREAS, From Trophy Point and Eisenhower Hall, MaryKay Messenger
has now performed at some of the world's greatest stages, including
Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall; she has also performed "God Bless
America" and the National Anthem in Yankee Stadium with a World Series
appearance on her resume; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her
community, MaryKay Messenger has volunteered with several local veterans
organizations including as a guardian during last fall's Honor Flight;
and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, David, and their
two daughters, Emma and Grace, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes that New York State is the
home to countless women who are strong and colorful threads, vital to
the fabric of our rich heritage, who have contributed, and continue to
add to the advancement of our culture through their traditional and
non-traditional roles in society; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor MaryKay Messenger upon the occasion of being named a 2017 Orange
County Woman of Achievement; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to MaryKay Messenger.
