HONORING Elizabeth Klosky upon the occasion of
being named a 2017 Orange County Woman of
Achievement

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those women of achievement within the Empire State who
have made strong contributions to their communities and who inspire
others through their model citizenship; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Elizabeth Klosky upon the occasion of being named a 2017 Orange County
Woman of Achievement by the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson and the YWCA
Orange County to be recognized at its 25th Anniversary Celebration on
Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Anthony's Pier 9, New Windsor, New York; and

WHEREAS, Founder of NY is a Great Place to Bee, Elizabeth Klosky is
a senior at Cornwall Central High School where she is a member of the
drama club, chorus and National Honor Society; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Klosky attended preschool at the Hudson Highlands
Nature Museum at its Outdoor Discovery Center, where she was introduced
to nature programs at a young age, cultivating her concern for the
environment; and

WHEREAS, Homeschooled from kindergarten through her first year of
high school, Elizabeth Klosky credits her parents and her active
involvement in Girl Scouts for affording her numerous opportunities to
mentor local youth and serve the community, as well as for giving her
the necessary tools to transition into public school; and

WHEREAS, With most of her memories at her home on Storm King Farm,
three-and-a-half acres in Cornwall-on-Hudson, Elizabeth Klosky has been
the main inspiration for its growth; her Girl Scout Silver Award project
took place on the family farm and included the raising of Northern
bobwhite quail for release into the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Klosky went on to establish NY is a Great Place
to Bee while completing her Girl Scout Gold project; with an interest in
having a sugar source on her property, coupled with her research on the
decline of the bee population, she became the main beekeeper for her
family's farm and sought to educate others on the importance of
pollinators; and

WHEREAS, A truly remarkable young lady, Elizabeth Klosky serves as a
Silver Award advisor for a project inspired by her Gold Award, the
installation of a native bee house at a local library; in addition, she
has been a member of the National Youth Leadership Training Program for
many years, and currently serves as an assistant senior patrol leader
and a role model for girls in the Sea Scouts and Venture Scouts
programs; and

WHEREAS, Elizabeth Klosky will be attending Cornell University in
the fall, where she will major in biological engineering with a focus on
agricultural engineering; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her parents, Led and Wynn,
and her brother, Ledlie, all of whom have shown her love and support and
rejoice in her achievements; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes that New York State is the
home to countless women who are strong and colorful threads, vital to
the fabric of our rich heritage, who have contributed, and continue to
add to the advancement of our culture through their traditional and
non-traditional roles in society; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Elizabeth Klosky upon the occasion of being named a 2017 Orange
County Woman of Achievement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Elizabeth Klosky.
