HONORING Kanisha E. Henderson upon the occasion of
being named a 2017 Orange County Woman of
Achievement

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those women of achievement within the Empire State who
have made strong contributions to their communities and who inspire
others through their model citizenship; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Kanisha E. Henderson upon the occasion of being named a 2017 Orange
County Woman of Achievement by the Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson and
the YWCA Orange County to be recognized at its 25th Anniversary
Celebration on Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Anthony's Pier 9, New
Windsor, New York; and

WHEREAS, Kanisha E. Henderson, known in the industry as Ayo Nish!
and DJ Ms. Perfect Touch, has spent many years passionately creating
music for a wide audience in the United States and abroad; she has
opened for Flo Rida, DJ Funkmaster Flex, Day 26, DJ Jazzy Joyce, and
more; and

WHEREAS, Among others, her songwriting and production team has
worked alongside a plethora of influential artists such as Maybach Music
Group, Young Money, The Roots, Jim Jones, Grafh, DJ Toomp, Fabo and
Pastor Troy; and

WHEREAS, Hailing from Newburgh, Kanisha E. Henderson deepens her
commitment to the possibilities of social transformation through the
arts by designing and implementing programs to address gang activity,
bullying and self-determination; and

WHEREAS, Kanisha E. Henderson works in partnership with the
Department of Education to put these vital programs into action; she is
often a guest speaker at youth events and has recently broadened her
reach to working with New York City cultural institutions such as the
Queens Museum and Sugar Hill Children's Museum of Art & Storytelling;
and

WHEREAS, This esteemed woman earned her bachelor's degree in
communications and business from SUNY Albany, where she was afforded the
opportunity to study abroad in South Korea at Yeungnam University; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her illustrious career as an artist and DJ,
Kanisha E. Henderson serves as a substitute teacher at Newburgh Free
Academy; she remains active with the Newburgh Youth Bureau and is an
assistant coach with the AAU Team, the Lady Panthers; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body recognizes that New York State is the
home to countless women who are strong and colorful threads, vital to
the fabric of our rich heritage, who have contributed, and continue to

add to the advancement of our culture through their traditional and
non-traditional roles in society; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kanisha E. Henderson upon the occasion of being named a 2017
Orange County Woman of Achievement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kanisha E. Henderson.
