HONORING Kristina M. Jamison-LeGrand upon the
occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Community Service Award by The Brooklyn Club of the
National Association of Negro Business and
Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. on April 29, 2017
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals and organizations it wishes to
recognize for their valued contributions to the success and progress of
society and publicly acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the
basic humanity among us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Kristina M.
Jamison-LeGrand upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
Community Service Award by The Brooklyn Club of the National Association
of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc., to be celebrated
at its 50th Annual Founders' Day Observance Luncheon on Saturday, April
29, 2017, at Gargiulos Restaurant in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The theme for this auspicious occasion is entitled "72
Years of L.E.T.S. - Leaders Exemplary Timeless Service; Marching forward
with a purpose"; each year, The Brooklyn Club acknowledges its Founders;
"the shoulders on which we stand and the role and responsibility we have
to prepare our young people for the future"; and
WHEREAS, The Brooklyn Club is a chapter of the National Association
of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. (NANBPWC, Inc.),
which provides opportunities for women to increase their leadership
skills, experience governance and parliamentary procedures, and enhance
their educational awareness of issues impacting the black community
through volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, Kristina M. Jamison-LeGrand is receiving this prestigious
award for her steadfast and unremitting commitment to her community; and
WHEREAS, Kristina M. Jamison-LeGrand was born on March 8, 1962, to
Reverend Dr. Harvey P. Jamison, Jr. and the late Carolyn Jamison; she
and her seven brothers and sisters were raised in the Crown Heights
section of Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from William H. Maxwell High School for
Fashion Design, Kristina M. Jamison-LeGrand attended Kingsborough
College for Business Administration; in 1987, she graduated from the
Market Training Institute for Business; and
WHEREAS, For 30 years, Kristina M. Jamison-LeGrand has served as a
Contracting Officer for the New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Fiscal
Services; in 1996, she served on the Membership Committee, and
currently, holds the position of Chairperson of the Hospitality
Committee; and
WHEREAS, A faithful member of the Damacus Road Baptist Church,
located in the Bed-Stuy section of Brooklyn, Kristina M. Jamison-LeGrand
holds the position of both Deaconess and Usher, and enjoys singing in
the choir; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her work with FDNY Fiscal Services, Kristina
M. Jamison-LeGrand has served as a recruiter with the FDNY Office of
Recruitment and Diversity since May of 2007; in this capacity, she
diligently worked to inform inner-city communities about available jobs
within the FDNY; and
WHEREAS, Kristina M. Jamison-LeGrand also became a mentor of the
FDNY Exploring Program, where she encourages her students to give back
to their community by assisting the needy, becoming peer mentors and
beautifying their neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, In the future, this generous and compassionate woman would
like to utilize her vast knowledge and experiences to manage her own
youth organization, striving to make her community a better place to
live, work and play; and
WHEREAS, When she is not working or helping someone, Kristina M.
Jamison-LeGrand likes to sing, sew beautiful projects, and cook
delicious meals for her family; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband of over 30 years,
Lavernson LeGrand, Jr., and their four children, Lavey, Nikia, Laveta
and LaPrincella, all of whom have shown her love and support and rejoice
in her many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kristina M. Jamison-LeGrand upon the occasion of her designation
as recipient of the Community Service Award by The Brooklyn Club of the
National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs,
Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kristina M. Jamison-LeGrand.
