COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the John Hus
Moravian Church of Brooklyn, New York

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and

WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commemorating the
50th Anniversary of the John Hus Moravian Church of Brooklyn, New York;
and

WHEREAS, For five decades, the John Hus Moravian Church has strived
to build up the body of Christ by making disciples through worship,
study, nurture and fellowship; to develop the use of each member's
talents and spiritual gifts, and to foster an atmosphere of
encouragement and caring concern for the uncommitted through service to
the wider community; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1966, John Hus Moravian Church is a congregation
affiliated with the world-wide Moravian Unity through the Northern
Province of the United States of America; from its early beginnings at
Franklin Avenue to its present home, the members of the Church have
focused on a worship experience which is uplifting and a fellowship
which is warm and receptive; and

WHEREAS, Although it is a traditional church in the sense of origin,
its worship services have evolved to incorporate elements of
contemporary worship while preserving those essential elements of its
customs and traditions; each service is planned with the expressed
intention of bringing joy to each person present while providing an
atmosphere and context for serious reflection and introspection; and

WHEREAS, Every member of the church has the opportunity to serve and
come together to worship, whether through Youth Fellowship, Sunday
School, Praise Dancers, Soul Survivors, Praise Team, Junior Choir,
Mission Team, and Multimedia Ministry, as well as both Women's and Men's
Fellowship; and

WHEREAS, In addition, the church offers various ministries including
food pantry, fitness and health, van, valet parking, hospitality,
visitation, computer, and prayer; congregants may also serve as ushers,
greeters and sacristans; and

WHEREAS, The John Hus Moravian Church stands on the threshold of
tomorrow, prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades while
retaining that spiritual resolve which characterizes its past; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the John Hus Moravian Church, fully
confident that this commemoration reflects the belief in those values
which enhance the dignity and purpose of life; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the John Hus Moravian Church.
