HONORING Thomas M. Banchich upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2017 Kenneth L.
Koessler Distinguished Faculty Award by the Canisius
College Alumni Association
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the
great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Thomas M. Banchich upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2017 Kenneth L. Koessler Distinguished Faculty Award by the Canisius
College Alumni Association, to be celebrated at its Spring Honors
Convocation on Friday, May 19, 2017, in Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the Canisius College Alumni Association's
Kenneth L. Koessler Distinguished Faculty Award is presented to a
Canisius faculty member in recognition of both their teaching excellence
and outstanding contributions to the academic world; and
WHEREAS, Thomas M. Banchich, a Professor and Chairman of the
Classics Department at Canisius College, has received this prestigious
award in recognition of his many educational achievements as well as his
passionate commitment to his discipline; and
WHEREAS, After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree and his Masters
of Arts degree in History, Thomas M. Banchich went on to study at the
SUNY at Buffalo, where he earned his Ph.D. in the Classics; and
WHEREAS, For more than 30 years, Thomas M. Banchich has been
promoting the study and value of ancient Greek and Latin history,
literature, philosophy, art and culture; in this capacity, he has
developed many popular courses at the college, such as Roman history,
Greek history and Alexander the Great; and
WHEREAS, In addition to articles and reviews, Thomas M. Banchich's
numerous publications also include the monographs: "The Lost History of
Peter the Patrician" and "The History of Zonaras: From Alexander Severus
to the Death of Theodosius the Great"; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife and two children,
who have shown him love and support and rejoice in his many
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Thomas M. Banchich has continually demonstrated an
impressive dedication, an unparalleled devotion and an unremitting
enthusiasm for the quality of the educational programs and opportunities
offered at Canisius College for the benefit of its faculty and students,
as well as for the entire community; and
WHEREAS, Thomas M. Banchich has clearly had an enduring impact on
the youth of Canisius College, as well as on the community-at-large, and
accordingly merits recognition and applause for his impressive
dedication to others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Thomas M. Banchich upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2017 Kenneth L. Koessler Distinguished Faculty Award by
the Canisius College Alumni Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Thomas M. Banchich.
