COMMENDING Circulo de la Hispanidad upon the
occasion of celebrating its 37th Anniversary on May
19, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Circulo de la Hispanidad upon the occasion of celebrating its
37th Anniversary with a Spring Gala on Friday, May 19, 2017, at the
Garden City Hotel, in Garden City, New York; this year's theme is
"Growing Stronger Together"; and

WHEREAS, Founded by Gil Bernardino, Circulo de la Hispanidad, Inc.
has been serving the community for almost four decades and currently
provides services to over 5,000 individuals and families a year; and

WHEREAS, This year's honorees, who are being recognized for their
dedicated service to Circulo de la Hispanidad, include: Octavio
Cardonas, Lia Di Angelo, Luis Figueroa, Mateo Flores, Vilma E. Matos,
and Dr. Victor F. Politi; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, Circulo de la Hispanidad has been
committed to providing community programs and comprehensive human
resources to the vulnerable families and individuals residing in
underserved communities on Long Island; and

WHEREAS, Through advocacy, Circulo de la Hispanidad seeks to unify
community voices with the goal of empowering the underserved and
protecting human and civil rights for all; and

WHEREAS, Circulo de la Hispanidad proactively addresses issues and
concerns vital to the community and provides over 220 programs in the
areas of education, ESL classes, literacy programs, GED preparation and
career services, domestic violence, housing, HIV/AIDS, and youth
services including partner after school program, summer camp and sport
activities in conjunction with the Long Beach Soccer Club; and

WHEREAS, As a leading community agency in Long Island, Circulo de la
Hispanidad continues to improve the lives of many individuals and
families in need; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Circulo de la Hispanidad upon the occasion of celebrating its
37th Anniversary on May 19, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Gil Bernardino, Founder and Executive Director of Circulo
de la Hispanidad, and the aforementioned honorees.
