HONORING LeGrande Serras upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2017 Third Age
Achievement Award in Business by Senior Services of
Albany
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
applaud the leaders of commerce and industry whose accomplishments
contribute to the economic health and prosperity of the communities of
the State of New York and to the quality of life of its people; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor LeGrande
Serras upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2017
Third Age Achievement Award in Business by Senior Services of Albany, to
be celebrated at its 21st Annual Third Age Achievement Awards Luncheon
on Friday, May 19, 2017, at Wolfert's Roost Country Club, Albany, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Each year, this auspicious event recognizes the
contributions that area residents and professionals have made in their
communities during the Third Age of their lives; LeGrande Serras will
receive this award for his valuable achievements and devoted service to
his community after the age of 60; and
WHEREAS, Third generation restaurant owner and serial restaurateur,
LeGrande Serras opened The Reel Seafood Co. in 1984; and
WHEREAS, His family's humble beginnings instilled in LeGrande the
importance of giving back, and for four decades he has worked tirelessly
to support the Capital Region's thriving arts community and the
countless human services organizations whose work empowers the
disenfranchised; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, LeGrande Serras has raised significant funds as an auctioneer
at more than 1,200 charity auctions in the Albany area; and
WHEREAS, Since selling The Reel Seafood Co. to his daughter, Aliki,
in 2013, LeGrande Serras has expanded his philanthropic efforts,
speaking to the community and professional groups on the critical role
independent businesses play in building a sustainable community; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, LeGrande Serras has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With his proven business leadership abilities and his
evident dedication to his community, LeGrande Serras is the
quintessential selection for this prestigious award; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor LeGrande Serras upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2017 Third Age Achievement Award in Business by Senior Services
of Albany; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to LeGrande Serras.
