HONORING Duke Castiglione upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition by the Dynamite
Youth Center Foundation, Inc. on May 24, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that the quality
and character of life in this great Empire State is indelibly enriched
by the faithful and untiring efforts of those individuals who have
helped shape the history of broadcasting in their area; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Duke Castiglione upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Dynamite Youth Center Foundation, Inc., to be
recognized at its 46th Anniversary Celebration on Wednesday, May 24,
2017, at the Prospect Park Picnic House, Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Dynamite Youth Center (DYC) was founded in 1970, and is
the first therapeutic community in New York State designed specifically
for adolescents and young adults; in its 46 years, the organization
continues to retain its reputation as a model of excellence; and

WHEREAS, Born June 21, 1973, Joseph "Duke" Castiglione, Jr. is an
American sports journalist who has worked for WNYW Fox 5 in New York
City since June of 2007; he is also the host of "Sports Extra", prior to
which he worked as a fill-in sports anchor and reporter at WHDH-TV, the
NBC affiliate in Boston; and

WHEREAS, A 1996 graduate of Stonehill College, Duke Castiglione grew
up in Marshfield, Massachusetts, where he spent time as a substitute
teacher at the town's high school; he began his broadcasting career at
WGGB-TV, the ABC affiliate in Springfield, Massachusetts; and

WHEREAS, Duke Castiglione has also served WCBS-TV CBS 2 in New York,
where he was the weekday morning sports anchor until 2006; his first New
York job was hosting "Sports on 1", a nightly call-in show, beginning in
2000; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his illustrious broadcasting career, Duke
Castiglione has also been the guest host on several television and radio
programs for ESPN, including "Sports Center" and "Around the Horn", and
was a field reporter for ESPN's baseball coverage during the 2005 and
2006 seasons; and

WHEREAS, Duke Castiglione is the proud recipient of the Associated
Press Award for Best Sports Show and two Journalist Awards for his
interviews with Lawrence Taylor and Bernard King; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Duke Castiglione upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by the Dynamite Youth Center Foundation, Inc. on May 24,
2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Duke Castiglione.
