MOURNING the death of Michael H. DerArakelian,
distinguished citizen and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
citizens of the State of New York whose lifework and civic endeavor
served to enhance the quality of life in their communities and the great
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Michael H. DerArakelian of Troy, New York, died on
Saturday, December 10, 2016, at the age of 72; and
WHEREAS, Born in Troy, New York, to Michael and Maude LaMont
DerArakelian, Michael H. DerArakelian was the owner and operator of
Michael's Floor Covering; he was a true craftsman in his profession and
was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man distinguished himself in his profession
and by his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the
welfare of his community; and
WHEREAS, Michael H. DerArakelian proudly served his country as a
member of the United States Army Reserves, and was a lifetime member of
the Italian Community Center in Troy; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his brother, Harry, and sisters Grace, Alice
and Lucy, Michael H. DerArkelian is survived by his wife of 45 years,
Yolanda; three children, Michael III (Lisa), Richard and Farah (Paul);
four grandchildren, Ashley, Emily (Jason), Amelia and Molly; a
great-grandson, Travis; his siblings, Mildred and Erma; as well as many
nieces, nephews and friends; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Michael H. DerArkelian leaves behind a legacy which will
long endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory
to all he served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Michael H. DerArakelian, distinguished citizen and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Michael H. DerArakelian.
