MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
March 18, 2017, as Transit Driver Appreciation Day
in the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to set aside
official days to recognize the hard work of certain individuals who
affect the lives of citizens of New York State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 18, 2017, as
Transit Driver Appreciation Day in the State of New York, in conjunction
with the observance of National Transit Driver Appreciation Day; and

WHEREAS, Transit Driver Appreciation Day, officially March 18, 2017,
was observed on Friday, March 17, 2017; and

WHEREAS, Residents throughout the State of New York celebrated the
hard-working bus drivers and rail operators by greeting them with a warm
smile or a friendly wave as they were boarding and a heartfelt thank you
upon leaving; and

WHEREAS, New Yorkers also printed out personalized thank you cards
to show their appreciation for all transit drivers do each and every day
of the year; and

WHEREAS, For hours on end, these drivers manage to keep a schedule,
check fares, give directions, announce stops, remember requests and
more, all while safely maneuvering an extra-large vehicle through
unpredictable traffic, tough weather conditions and some really tight
spaces; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 18, 2017, as
Transit Driver Appreciation Day in the State of New York; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York.
