HONORING Anne Richter Ashley and Brian Ashley upon
the occasion of their retirement from 7 News
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those
individuals whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to
enhance the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in New York State is reflective of the
concerned and dedicated efforts of those individuals who are devoted to
the welfare of the State and its citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Anne Richter Ashley and Brian Ashley upon the occasion of their
retirement from 7 News; and
WHEREAS, A North Country native, Anne joined 7 News in June of 1980,
where she began her career as a reporter, then went on to produce and
anchor the morning, noon, 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. newscasts throughout
the years, in addition to serving as Assistant News Director; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her tenure at 7 News, Anne has covered every big
story, including major weather events, such as the Ice Storm of 1998,
the reactivation of the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum,
presidential trips to the North Country, and countless others; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of her tremendous journalistic work, Anne
has received a number of accolades, including the Syracuse Press Club's
prestigious Bliven-Rossi Lifetime Achievement Award; and
WHEREAS, A native of Owen Sound, Ontario, Anne's husband, Brian
Ashley began his career in journalism in 1977; and
WHEREAS, In 1984, Brian moved to the United States where he became
the News Director at WTNY Radio and after 12 years, moved to WWNY TV to
co-anchor the 6:00 p.m. news alongside his wife, Anne, a role he
excelled at for two decades; and
WHEREAS, Brian has received a number of accolades for his work, and
says his favorite stories to cover were those focused on people
overcoming problems big or small, including stories on the Ice Storms of
1991 and 1998, as well as the Microburst of 1995; and
WHEREAS, Upon his retirement from 7 News, Brian accepted a position
as Executive Director of the Fort Drum Regional Liaison Organization, a
role in which his purpose is to strengthen the connection between Fort
Drum and the North Country's civilian community; and
WHEREAS, In addition to their successful careers, Anne and Brian
have always made time to give back to their community, whether it be
serving on boards of various local organizations or donating their time
to countless worthy causes; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anne Richter Ashley and Brian Ashley upon the occasion upon the
occasion of their retirement from 7 New, and to wish them continued
success in all their future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Anne Richter Ashley and Brian Ashley.
