HONORING Scoutmaster Dr. John Foster upon the
occasion of his retirement after 30 years of
distinguished service to Troop 56, Lawyersville, New
York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished citizens who would devote their life's work
and purpose to community service, contributing to the welfare of the
citizens of their communities and this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Scoutmaster Dr. John Foster upon the occasion of his retirement after 30
years of distinguished service to Troop 56, Lawyersville, New York, to
be celebrated with a camping overnight May 28-29, 2017, at Camp
Henderson, Maryland, New York; and

WHEREAS, Dr. John Foster has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and

WHEREAS, A Professor of Fish Ecology at SUNY Cobleskill, Dr. John
Foster has served as the Scoutmaster of Troop 56, Lawyersville, New
York, for three decades; and

WHEREAS, In this capacity, Dr. John Foster has enthusiastically
camped, hiked and paddled through adventures from Alaska to Yellowstone,
from the Florida Keys to the Bay of Fundi; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Dr. John Foster, countless
young men have learned outdoor skills while developing their character
and leadership abilities in the Boy Scouts of America program; in
addition, more than 35 of these young men have achieved the rank of
Eagle Scout; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. John Foster has stood constant
in dignity, good grace, and humility; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Dr. John Foster has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Dr. John Foster, that future generations may know and appreciate his
admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Scoutmaster Dr. John Foster upon the occasion of his retirement

after 30 years of distinguished service to Troop 56, Lawyersville, New
York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Scoutmaster Dr. John Foster.
