HONORING Melvin J. Busler, Jr. upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the 2017 SUNY
Canton Council's Distinguished Citizen Award

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve
in the best interest of their communities are an asset beyond
remuneration and cannot be sufficiently extolled; and

WHEREAS, Melvin J. Busler, Jr. has given not only of his time and
energies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently has been designated for special recognition; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Melvin J.
Busler, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2017 Distinguished Citizen Award by the SUNY Canton Council, celebrated
at its Annual Faculty and Community Awards Dinner at SUNY Canton on May
11, 2017; and

WHEREAS, A native of Watertown, New York, Melvin J. Busler, Jr. is a
1977 graduate of Immaculate Heart Central School and attended Jefferson
Community College; and

WHEREAS, He began his broadcast career with WATN radio in 1978,
joining 7 News in 1982, and becoming the 7 News full-time sportscaster
in 1984; and

WHEREAS, Generous with his time, Melvin J. Busler, Jr. is well-known
as the face and voice of North Country sports, and takes great pride in
his North Country heritage; and

WHEREAS, A staunch community advocate, Melvin J. Busler, Jr.
volunteers extensively with area charitable organizations, including
Meals on Wheels, the Victims Assistance Center of Jefferson County and
the Disabled Persons Action Organization; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of his community which Melvin J. Busler, Jr.
has displayed throughout his career; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Melvin J. Busler, Jr., that future generations may know and appreciate
his admirable character, and the respect and esteem in which he is held
by his peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Melvin J. Busler, Jr. upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the 2017 Distinguished Citizen Award by the SUNY Canton
Council, and to wish him continued success in all of his future
endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Melvin J. Busler, Jr.
