HONORING Tracey Armstead upon the occasion of
being inducted into the first class of the Section
IX Track and Field Hall of Fame on May 20, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Tracey Armstead upon the occasion of being inducted into the first class
of the Section IX Track and Field Hall of Fame to be celebrated at a
Ceremony on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Kuhl's Highland House in
Middletown, New York; and

WHEREAS, A 1981 graduate of Monticello High School, Tracey Armstead
captured the 1980 New York State Championship in the 55 meter sprint,
and the 200 meter dash in the 1981 New York State Outdoor Championships;
and

WHEREAS, After graduation, Tracey Armstead attended SUNY Cortland
where she continued her stellar career; she earned five NCAA Division
III titles including the 55 meters and long jump indoor, and the long
jump, 100 meters and 200 meters outdoors; and

WHEREAS, Tracey Armstead was inducted into the SUNY Cortland Hall of
Fame in 2012, and the NCAA Division III Track and Field Hall of Fame in
2014; and

WHEREAS, Currently, Tracey Armstead continues to hold five SUNY
Cortland track and field records; and

WHEREAS, Tracey Armstead has been an inspiration to countless track
and field fans, as well as to the community-at-large, and accordingly
merits recognition and applause for her tremendous passion for the sport
and competitive spirit; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are brought to
our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Tracey Armstead upon the occasion of being inducted into
the first class of the Section IX Track and Field Hall of Fame on May
20, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Tracey Armstead.
