COMMENDING Matthew A. Garner upon the occasion of
his designation as the 2016-2017 CYO Member of the
Year by the CYO-Troy Youth Association, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Matthew A. Garner upon the occasion of his designation as the
2016-2017 CYO Member of the Year by the CYO-Troy Youth Association,
Inc., to be feted at its 13th Annual William J. Pascarell Person of the
Year Celebration on Thursday, June 1, 2017, at the Italian Community
Center in Troy, New York; and

WHEREAS, This prestigious award honors the remarkable legacy of the
agency's founder, William J. Pascarell; Matthew A. Garner is truly
deserving of this accolade for his steadfast concern for his community
through involvement in youth programs and community affairs; and

WHEREAS, Matthew A. Garner, in achieving this honor, may take just
pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of excellence he
brings to his family, friends, community and school; and

WHEREAS, A senior at Troy High School, Matthew A. Garner has served
as the backstage manager for two school plays, and is currently working
with students at School 12 on their production of "The Lion King"; and

WHEREAS, A long-time member of the CYO Troy Youth Association,
Matthew A. Garner is an active participant of the basketball program;
and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Matthew A. Garner assists with
child care at his local church and holds the position of Assistant Coach
of the Brunswick Softball League; a vital member of the Troy Police
Cadet Post, he plans on enlisting in the United States Army Reserves
after graduation; and

WHEREAS, As Matthew A. Garner takes his leave of Troy High School,
he bequeaths a legacy of achievement, school involvement and community
service to which others may aspire; and

WHEREAS, A young man of singular distinction, Matthew A. Garner has
distinguished himself as a young man of superlative ability,
establishing a high standard of excellence and purposefulness of life
rarely achieved in youthful years; and

WHEREAS, With his sense of civic duty and his commitment to others,
Matthew A. Garner represents the best development of the potential which
is inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be
it


RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Matthew A. Garner upon the occasion of his designation as the
2016-2017 CYO Member of the Year by the CYO-Troy Youth Association,
Inc.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Matthew A. Garner.
