HONORING Elijah Gardner upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Senior Scholar
Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES on April
27, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its
young citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and
accomplishments exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great
State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Elijah
Gardner upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Senior
Scholar Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES which was celebrated
at its Fourth Annual Awards Breakfast, on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at
Kuhl's Highland House, Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award recognizes outstanding high school
students for their accomplishments and/or performances in the arts,
including fine arts, theater, and music; and
WHEREAS, Elijah Gardner has distinguished himself as a young man of
superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing standards of
excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life, and responsibility
rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, A senior at S.S. Seward Institute in Florida, New York,
Elijah Gardner will be attending SUNY Cortland in Cortland, New York,
this fall; he plans to major in adolescent education; and
WHEREAS, Elijah Gardner is currently the treasurer of S.S. Seward
Institute's Art Club as well as an active member of the school's drama
club for two years, where he has helped the Middle School drama club
with backstage preparation; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his high school career, Elijah Gardner received
numerous distinctions including the Sojourner Truth Award and the
President's Honor Award; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for his classmates, Elijah
Gardner has brought honor to his family, school, and community; and
WHEREAS, Elijah Gardner may stand with pride in his achievements,
experiencing the satisfaction of his labors and the joy of his
accomplishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as he
continues his education; and
WHEREAS, Elijah Gardner represents the potential inherent in our
most precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to
honor this young man, recognizing his achievements and the promise of
his future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Elijah Gardner upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Senior Scholar Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES, and
to wish him well in his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Elijah Gardner.
