COMMENDING Nassau BOCES upon the occasion of
celebrating its 50th Anniversary on January 18, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations which are committed to enhancing the
quality of education in the State of New York, and which enable our
schools to offer excellent educational programs in the most efficient
manner; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Nassau BOCES upon the occasion of celebrating its 50th
Anniversary, to be feted at a Dinner Dance on Wednesday, January 18,
2017, at Woodbury Country Club, Woodbury, New York; and

WHEREAS, Established in 1967, the Board of Cooperative Services of
Nassau County (Nassau BOCES) is the largest BOCES in the State of New
York, serving 56 school districts throughout the County; and

WHEREAS, For the last 50 years, Nassau BOCES has strived to enhance
public education by ensuring a successful, challenging, caring and safe
environment which enables students of all ages and abilities to achieve
their maximum potential; and

WHEREAS, By partnering with Nassau County school districts, Nassau
BOCES provides leadership and quality educational and support services
which help students change their lives and shape their future through
approximately 100 different programs which change constantly in respect
to school district needs; and

WHEREAS, Under the direction of a nine-member Board of Directors,
elected by members of the Boards of Education in its 56 component
districts, Nassau BOCES is comprised of nearly three dozen locations,
with sites ranging from large facilities such as the Joseph M. Barry
Career & Technical Education Center in Westbury, New York, to a cluster
of classrooms in a local school; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Nassau BOCES provides individualized
instruction to over 1,800 students at 10 special education schools
through the County; and

WHEREAS, The success of Nassau BOCES is in direct correlation to the
efforts of its more than 2,500 full- and part-time staff, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the
community it serves; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Nassau BOCES upon the occasion of celebrating its 50th
Anniversary on January 18, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Nassau BOCES.
