COMMENDING Sita Construction Co., Inc. upon the
occasion of celebrating its 25th Anniversary
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those individuals and businesses which substantially
contribute to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Sita Construction Co., Inc. upon the occasion of celebrating its
25th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Born in Spain, Bienvenido "Pepe" Carretero came to the
United States at the young age of 18; shortly thereafter, he began his
career in heavy and highway construction; it was at this time, he met
the love of his life, Elsa, who turned out to be his perfect business
partner; and
WHEREAS, After working mostly as a general foreman for several
companies on road and bridge projects, Pepe and Elsa Carretero decided
to start their own construction company in 1991; incorporated in Kearny,
New Jersey, Sita Construction Co., Inc. was born; and
WHEREAS, Initially, Pepe and Elsa Carretero handled every aspect of
the business; Elsa handled the books and the contracts, and Pepe
personally managed every project on the field; and
WHEREAS, Over time, Sita Construction Co., began handling larger and
more complex contracts in the public sector; building upon this solid
foundation of successful roadwork projects, the company significantly
expanded its portfolio of construction disciplines; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Pepe and Elsa Carretero's daughter, Sandra, joined
the company by helping with the bookkeeping; by 2002, she had become a
full-time employee and her role quickly expanded; three years later, the
family's other daughter, Lidia began working for the company handling
the inner-office clerical duties; and
WHEREAS, The company found success as a prime contractor and
subcontractor in both New York and New Jersey; their business has also
grown since their certification as a D/S/W/MBE firm with the New Jersey
Department of Transportation, NJ TRANSIT and the Port Authority of
NY/NJ; in addition, the family added project manager, Ayman Botros to
their team; and
WHEREAS, In 2009, Sita Construction Co., grew exponentially as it
landed its largest and most prestigious job, a contract with Hudson
County; the business built five separate parks, which included several
playgrounds, pavilions, athletic fields, basketball courts, tennis
courts and water parks; and
WHEREAS, After Superstorm Sandy, Sita Construction Co., was chosen
to handle the Parkway Avenue Bridge washout in Warwick, New York; it
performed the precast installation of the bridge during the difficult
aftermath of the storm, and restored this critical piece of
infrastructure for the Orange County region in a timely and efficient
manner; and
WHEREAS, During its 25 years of business, Sita Construction Co., was
selected to handle the Port Newark Davit Street Extension, which they
successfully completed ahead of schedule; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Sita Construction Co., Inc. upon the occasion of celebrating its
25th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Bienvenido and Elsa Carretero, Owners, Sita Construction
Co., Inc.
