COMMEMORATING the 25th Anniversary of the Rhulen
Rock Hill Run and Ramble on June 17, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that the quality
of the citizens of the State of New York is greatly enriched by its
exceptional cultural, educational and recreational institutions and
events; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Rhulen Rock Hill Run and Ramble
on Saturday, June 17, 2017, beginning at Frontier Insurance, Rock Hill,
New York; and

WHEREAS, The Rhulen Rock Hill Run and Ramble (R4) is held in memory
of Walter A. Rhulen, a dedicated runner and local humanitarian; the
event benefits the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Trevor Loughlin
Foundation, and other local organizations; and

WHEREAS, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America is a national
not-for-profit voluntary health organization whose mission is to cure
Leukemia, Lymphoma, Myeloma and Hodgkins Disease, and improve the
quality of life for patients and their families; and

WHEREAS, Leukemia research has proved to be the window of hope for
all forms of cancer; in 1960 the cure rate for childhood Leukemia was
4%; today it is over 90%; and

WHEREAS, The Trevor Loughlin Foundation (TLF) benefits individuals
battling blood cancer and other acute catastrophic illnesses; grants are
issued to help patients and their families with medical and essential
living expenses incurred while trying to get well; and

WHEREAS, In 2016, the R4 raised substantial funds which benefited
the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Trevor Loughlin Foundation, as
well as Catskill Regional Medical Center, DKMS, and the United Way of
Sullivan County; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, grants were issued from the Trevor Loughlin
Foundation to patients ages 2-62 battling Chronic Myelomonocytic
Leukemia, Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma, Stage III Colon Cancer, Stage
IV Carcinoma of the Larynx, Breast Cancer, Lung Cancer and Endometrial
Cancer; and

WHEREAS, One of the largest footraces in the Hudson Valley, the
Rhulen Rock Hill Run and Ramble promotes a healthy lifestyle with a
focus on fun, family and community spirit; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Rhulen Rock Hill Run and Ramble is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its sponsors, whose involvement is,
and always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an
unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the event and the community it serves; and


WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Rhulen Rock
Hill Run and Ramble; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
organizations and events of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Rhulen Rock Hill Run and Ramble
on June 17, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of America and the Trevor
Loughlin Foundation.
