HONORING Master Sergeant Brian Hughes upon the
occasion of his designation as recipient of the
Meritorious Service Award by the Town of Bethlehem
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of
certain extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their
valued contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Master
Sergeant Brian Hughes upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Meritorious Service Award by the Town of Bethlehem, celebrated at
a Ceremony on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the Town of Bethlehem Court, in
Bethlehem, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Town of Bethlehem honored police department members for
outstanding service in recognition of Police Week in conjunction with
National Police Week; these fellow officers were awarded for their brave
acts in the apprehension of unlikely criminals; and
WHEREAS, The Meritorious Service Award is presented for a highly
unusual accomplishment under adverse conditions with some degree of
hazard to life and limb to the nominee, or where death or injury to a
third party is prevented; and
WHEREAS, On Tuesday, May 24, 2016, Master Sergeant Brian Hughes and
fellow officers responded to a report of a possible burglary in progress
in a residential area in Selkirk, New York; and
WHEREAS, Upon arrival, Master Sergeant Brian Hughes and his fellow
officers were able to establish a perimeter without the suspect noticing
their presence; they were able to make a tactical entry into the
residence and locate the suspect destroying property in the house; and
WHEREAS, Due to the teamwork and coordination of the officers on the
scene, the subject was apprehended without incident; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Master Sergeant Brian Hughes upon the occasion of his designation
as recipient of the Meritorious Service Award by the Town of Bethlehem;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Master Sergeant Brian Hughes.
