HONORING Justice Philip S. Milone posthumously
upon the occasion of the naming of The Honorable
Philip S. Milone Courtroom in recognition of his
extraordinary service to the people of the Village
of Stewart Manor

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those singular individuals who devoted their purposeful
lives and careers to preserving the rights and protecting the welfare of
the citizens of their community and the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in the Stewart Manor
community has been ably served and uniquely enriched through the
selfless dedication and benevolent concern of Justice Philip S. Milone;
and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Philip S.
Milone posthumously upon the occasion of the naming of The Honorable
Philip S. Milone Courtroom in recognition of his extraordinary service
to the people of the Village of Stewart Manor; and

WHEREAS, A resident of Stewart Manor for more than 25 years, Judge
Philip S. Milone served the Village of Stewart Manor as Village Justice
from April of 2002, until his untimely death on September 23, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Judge Philip S. Milone was a respected trial attorney for
more than three decades, during which time he handled a great variety of
divorce and family law cases in the Supreme and Family Courts of New
York; and

WHEREAS; A recognized leader in the Matrimonial and Family Law Fields,
Judge Philip S. Milone was named a Top Family Law Attorney in April of
2014, by New York Magazine; he was also rated Well Qualified by the
Nassau County Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, Judge Philip S. Milone served as a lecturer in the Parent
Education and Custody Effectiveness (PEACE) program sponsored by the
Hofstra University School of Law and the Queens Supreme Court; he also
lectured to both lawyers and judges about the law of Child Custody and
Visitation at the Queens County Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his
community, Judge Philip S. Milone was the Vice President of the Stewart
Manor Fire Department Benevolent and Exempt Association, the Nassau
County Youth Football League and the Elmont Cardinals Youth Football
Team; and

WHEREAS, Judge Philip S. Milone served as Past Grand Knight and Past
District Warden of the Knights of Columbus; in addition, he achieved the
rank of Grand Cross of the Equestrian Order of Knights and Ladies of the
Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem; and

WHEREAS, Judge Philip S. Milone was a loving husband and devoted
father to his two children; he was a parishioner of St. Anne's Church,
as well as a volunteer lecturer at St. Anne's School Enrichment Program
and Den Leader for St. Anne's Tiger Club Den; and

WHEREAS, Throughout a life and career of purposeful endeavor, Judge
Philip S. Milone remained true to his commitment, serving family, faith
and community, as well as the law; his contributions and accomplishments
have brought great benefit and positive influence to bear upon the
course of jurisprudence and the quality of life for others; and

WHEREAS, Respected by both attorneys and defendants alike, Judge
Philip S. Milone always conducted an impartial and objective court; he
treated all defendants with compassion and dignity while at the same
time remaining fair in his rulings; and

WHEREAS, Judge Philip S. Milone, in every capacity in which he
served, left his permanent mark on the criminal justice community and
will forever be remembered as a determined, innovative and genuinely
concerned expert in his field; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Justice Philip S. Milone posthumously upon the occasion of the
naming of The Honorable Philip S. Milone Courtroom in recognition of his
extraordinary service to the people of the Village of Stewart Manor; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Justice Philip S. Milone.
