Senate Resolution No. 26

CONDEMNING anti-immigrant activity, racial bias
and discrimination, anti-semitism, islamophobia,
hate speech, hate crimes, and harassment, and
reaffirming community safety, trust and well-being
in the State of New York
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body has a history of standing against
bigotry, harassment, discrimination, injustice, and all other
manifestations of intolerance; our diversity is a symbol of our strength
as a State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Each and every New Yorker seeks peace, stability, and a
better quality of life for their families, and their many contributions
to social, religious, cultural, and economic life greatly enrich our
communities; and
WHEREAS, There has been a dramatic increase in hateful and
intolerant acts against our State's diverse population; these actions
are contrary to the American values of acceptance, welcoming, and
fellowship with those of all faiths, beliefs, and cultures; and
WHEREAS, All of our residents, including the large population of
foreign born residents who live in New York, should be free to go about
their daily life without fear of hate speech, hate crimes, harassment,
or deportation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is reaching out to all citizens of
the State of New York to consider the different values, beliefs,
opinions, faiths, and philosophies of others; to foster the caring and
compassionate spirit of humanity; and to cultivate and acknowledge
respect toward others within our communities; and
WHEREAS, It is imperative to safeguard our diverse population
throughout this great Empire State, and to offer all persons a
supportive environment and equal opportunities with the promise of a
future of respect and security; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
condemn anti-immigrant activity, racial bias and discrimination,
anti-semitism, islamophobia, hate speech, hate crimes, and harassment,
and reaffirming community safety, trust and well-being in the State of
New York.
