Senate Resolution No. 2758

COMMEMORATING the 50th Anniversary of the Order of
the DeMolay in the State of New York
WHEREAS, A great state is only as great as its citizens and as
strong as its communities, and New York State is among the strongest in
the nation thanks to the individual residents and their unwavering
commitment to improving our quality of life; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those individuals and organizations who devote their
purposeful life to serving others; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Order of DeMolay in the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, The Order of DeMolay in this State has its headquarters at
the Masonic Care Community in Utica, New York, which also serves as an
independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing care facility
for hundreds of residents who hail from throughout our great State; and
WHEREAS, Local Chapters of the Order of DeMolay can be found on Long
Island, in the City of New York, and in numerous other villages, towns,
and cities throughout our State; and
WHEREAS, The Order of DeMolay, founded in Kansas City, Missouri, in
1919, is an international organization for young men ages 12-21;
deriving its name from Jacques DeMolay, the last Grand Master of the
Knights Templar; and
WHEREAS, This organization is dedicated to preparing young men to
lead happy, successful, and productive lives by developing the civic
awareness, personal responsibility, and leadership skills so vitally
needed in society today; and
WHEREAS, The Order of DeMolay combines this serious mission with a
fun approach which builds important bonds of friendship among its
members locally and worldwide; and
WHEREAS, The Order of DeMolay alumni include such distinguished men
as: Walt Disney, John Wayne, Walter Cronkite, and numerous other
politicians, doctors, and professionals, many of whom have spoken
eloquently of the life-changing benefit gained from their involvement in
the Order of DeMolay; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
organizations which enhance the quality of life in their community and
have shown a long and sustained commitment to the maintenance of high
standards, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Order of DeMolay in the State of
New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Order of DeMolay in the State of New York.
