CONGRATULATING the National Society Daughters of
the American Revolution, Catherine Schuyler Chapter
upon the occasion of its 120th Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to honor and
commemorate the proud and distinguished histories of organizations which
comprise the noble body of this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Catherine
Schuyler Chapter, upon the occasion of its 120th Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The Catherine Schuyler Chapter was founded in Belmont, New
York, in 1897, by 21 charter members; its first Regent, Mary Adelia
Chamberlain Ward and her husband, Hamilton Ward, District Attorney for
Allegany County, District Justice, NYS Attorney and Congressman,
provided the land on which the first "home" of the Daughters of the
American Revolution, Ward Hall, now the Belmont Free Library, was built;
and

WHEREAS, The Catherine Schuyler Chapter increased its membership, of
over 200, during the pre-World War II years, after which the membership,
as with other women's organizations, declined with women entering the
workforce; the Chapter currently has over 70 members, primarily from
Allegany County, with some from nearby New York locations and a number
from out-of-state; and

WHEREAS, The Catherine Schuyler Chapter services the community
through promoting patriotism, education and historic preservation at all
levels; this Chapter is involved with recognizing those who exhibit
common interests in their communities through Eagle Scout, Good
Citizens, Historic Preservation and Community Service Awards; and

WHEREAS, The Catherine Schuyler Chapter demonstrates a profound
commitment to providing direct services to Veterans and members of the
military; and

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those organizations that have achieved notable success in
their service to the residents and communities of this great Empire
State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution,
Catherine Schuyler Chapter upon the occasion of its 120th Anniversary;
and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the National Society Daughters of the American
Revolution, Catherine Schuyler Chapter.
