COMMENDING Dr. Robert A. Buhrman upon the occasion
of his stepping down after 10 years of distinguished
service as Senior Vice Provost for Research at
Cornell University
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to take note of
and publicly acknowledge individuals of remarkable integrity and
character whose endeavors have enhanced the quality of education in the
great State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Dr. Robert A. Buhrman upon the occasion of stepping down after
10 years of distinguished service as Senior Vice Provost for Research at
Cornell University; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Robert A. Buhrman has served as the Senior Vice Provost
for Research at Cornell University since September 1, 2007; and
WHEREAS, A leader in applied condensed matter physics and nanoscale
science and engineering, Dr. Robert A. Buhrman has authored more than
230 scientific publications that have received more than 17,000
citations; and
WHEREAS, After 44 years, Dr. Robert A. Buhrman's professional
service to Cornell University and the academic community includes his
leadership as the John Edson Sweet Professor of Engineering, Elected
Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Fellow of the
American Physical Society, Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee at
the Argonne Center for Nanoscale Materials, Chair of the Cornell
Nanoscale Facility (CNF) Executive Committee, Director of Applied and
Engineering Physics at Cornell University and Founding Director of the
National Science Foundation Center for Nanoscale Systems in Information
Technologies; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his profession, Dr. Robert A. Buhrman is a
practical leader who has applied his superior intellect, scrupulous
attention and keen judgment to his position as Cornell University's
Senior Vice Provost for Research to great effect; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Dr. Robert A. Buhrman upon the occasion of stepping down after
10 years of distinguished service as Senior Vice Provost for Research at
Cornell University; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Robert A. Buhrman.
