COMMENDING Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES) upon
the occasion of celebrating its 40th Anniversary

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge extraordinary
institutions that enrich the people of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES) upon the occasion of
celebrating its 40th Anniversary; and

WHEREAS, GOLES serves as an essential neighborhood housing and
preservation organization, which strives to ensure the rights of its
most vulnerable neighborhood residents are protected and their voices
are heard; and

WHEREAS, This vital organization is a staunch defender of affordable
housing, working to preserve it for the many citizens who live in the
Lower East Side of New York City; it also serves as an advocate for
small businesses in the neighborhood amidst skyrocketing rents; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception, GOLES has been committed to protecting
tenants' rights, economic development, preventing homelessness, and
community revitalization; by organizing and educating, tenants have
become empowered to serve as a collective voice of reason; and

WHEREAS, GOLES diligently works to ensure the environment of the
Lower East Side is clean and healthy, making it a pleasant, unique place
for families and seniors to live, work and play; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
organizations which enhance the well-being and vitality of their
community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence
certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES) upon the occasion of
celebrating its 40th Anniversary; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES).
