COMMENDING Peck's Wines and Spirits, Inc. upon the
occasion of celebrating its 30th Anniversary under
the ownership of the Iurato family
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor those
businesses within the State of New York which distinguish themselves
through outstanding professional behavior and enduring commitment to the
community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Peck's Wines and Spirits, Inc. upon the occasion of celebrating
its 30th Anniversary under the ownership of the Iurato family; and
WHEREAS, In May of 1987, Bill and Debbie Iurato purchased Peck's
Wines and Spirits, Inc. from John Umhey; original owners, Walter and
Ruth Peck, first opened the store at 16 South St. in 1957; years later,
the ownership transferred to Myra Roe who, in 1980, sold the business to
John Umhey; and
WHEREAS, In 1992, Bill and Debbie Iurato relocated Peck's Wines and
Spirits to larger quarters on Bank Street; after seven years of
prosperity, they purchased the building; and
WHEREAS, The Iuratos studied wine and took educational tours of wine
districts, becoming masterful sommeliers; they added more wines to their
inventory and began holding wine tastings every Friday evening to
introduce new discoveries; Peck's Wines and Spirits also offered bar
catering services and delivered soda, ice and other supplies along with
the order of liquors and wine; and
WHEREAS, A family-run business, Corinne, Debbie and Bill Iurato's
daughter, has served as store manager for the last decade;
unfortunately, Debbie died earlier this year; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges Peck's Wines and Spirits' success, recognizes its
contributions to the local and State economies, and extends its highest
commendation to the corporation and its employees, fully confident that,
in its future, it will enjoy the same success which has so characterized
its past; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Peck's Wines and Spirits, Inc. upon the occasion of celebrating
its 30th Anniversary under the ownership of the Iurato family; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Bill Iurato, Owner; and Corrine Iurato, Store Manager,
Peck's Wines and Spirits, Inc.
