Senate Resolution No. 2905

BY: Senator CROCI

MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
November 2017, as Military Opportunities Month in
the State of New York

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
official months that are set aside to pay tribute to members of the
United States Military who have so faithfully served their community and
country with courage and commitment, contributing to the safety and
welfare of others and the preservation of the freedoms and democratic
principles upon which this State and Nation are founded; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim November 2017, as
Military Opportunities Month in the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, The freedom, peace, and security that citizens of the
United States enjoy today are the direct results of the sacrifices and
the continued vigilance of the members of the Armed Forces who
selflessly serve to protect our Nation; and

WHEREAS, There is an opportunity to increase awareness and promote
the value of military service as an alternative educational opportunity
and career avenue throughout New York high schools; and

WHEREAS, In addition to world class training in cutting edge skills
and technologies, all members of the United States Armed Forces leave
the military imbued with a sense of pride and responsibility as well as
an unmatched work ethic and the discipline needed to succeed in the 21st
century; and

WHEREAS, Each person seeking to volunteer is critical to bolstering
our national defense, since only 30 percent of the 32 million 18-24 year
olds in the United States are eligible to serve their country; this
illustrates the importance of open and supportive communication between
the nation's military recruiters and high schools; and

WHEREAS, The recruiters of all five branches of the United States
military, as well as the Army and Air National Guard, shall endeavor to
improve communication with educators and educational organizations in
New York to provide them the information needed to be supportive of the
students who seek to serve and defend America's freedoms; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim November 2017, as
Military Opportunities Month in the State of New York; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
