CONGRATULATING Thelma Burchard upon the occasion
of celebrating her 102nd Birthday
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great
Nation and Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Thelma Burchard upon the occasion of celebrating her 102nd
Birthday; and
WHEREAS, Thelma Burchard was born on May 24, 1915, in Greenfield,
Iowa, to parents Irven and Pearl Young; she attended school at Sherburne
High School in Sherburne, New York; and
WHEREAS, Thelma Burchard worked in a knitting mill in Norwich after
high school; she also worked in a factory making magnetos which are
electrical generators that were used in the ignition systems of
airplanes during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Thelma married her husband, Lester Burchard in 1936, before
he was drafted into the United States Army in 1943; together, they had
two daughters, Brenda and Barbara; she has been further blessed with
four grandchildren, Elaine, David, Tanya, and Jesse, and six
great-grandchildren, Jamal, Maija, Evan, Natalie, Bryn, and Sadie; and
WHEREAS, On Thelma Burchard's 102nd birthday in May, her daughters
had lunch with her at Moonwinks Restaurant and then took a "mystery
ride" along the Cuba areas backroads, as this was always one of Thelma's
favorite things to do; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize and honor the lives of beloved citizens who have reached a
remarkable age and who have witnessed and celebrated the outstanding
innovations, cultural developments, and awesome achievements of this
country during the last century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Thelma Burchard upon the occasion of celebrating her 102nd
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Thelma Burchard.
