HONORING Karl Grantier upon the occasion of
receiving the 2017 Alfred Almond Alumni
Association's Outstanding Service Award

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to commemorate
and honor the significant contributions of time and talents through
community and public service by certain esteemed residents of this great
Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Karl Grantier upon the occasion of receiving the 2017 Alfred Almond
Alumni Association's Outstanding Service Award; and

WHEREAS, Karl Grantier fits the very definition of what it means to
be an outstanding citizen, service oriented and a volunteer of the
community; he is being honored with this prestigious award for his
longtime service to the community, veterans, the veterans' recognition
project, and to the AAAA; and

WHEREAS, Following his graduation from Alfred-Almond Central School
in 1955, Karl Grantier entered the US Air Force with plans to have a
full military career; his service was unfortunately interrupted in
October of 1957, when he received third degree burns on 37 percent of
his body from a fuel spill at Moody AFB, Valdosta, GA; he was medically
retired in 1960, returning to Almond where he became a Truck Driver,
then a Bus Driver for Alfred State, and eventually established his own
trucking company which he operated for nearly 25 years; and

WHEREAS, Karl Grantier has been Commander of the American Legion
Post 370 for the past 20 years, and is a Delegate and Committee Member
for the Allegany County American Legion Committee; he is also a Member
of the Board of Directors for the Sampson National Cemetery, Chairman of
the Veterans Wall Committee for the Alfred Almond Alumni Association
from 2003-present, Chairman of the Hometown Heroes Banner
Project/Almond, and past President of the Sampson Air Force Base
Veterans Association; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to his community, Karl Grantier is on the Village
Review Board, and has been a lifetime member to the Almond Fire Company
as Fire Police Captain, and the Almond Ambulance Corps, where he was a
Charter Member 50 years ago; in Karl's earlier years, he was Almond's
Cubmaster, and later the Scoutmaster for the Almond Explorer Scouts; and

WHEREAS, As a Life Member of the Almond Historical Society, Karl
Grantier regularly provided trucking services through his business KLG
Trucking for their projects; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, the former Judy
Sniffen, their two sons, Tim and Jeff, three grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren, all of whom have shown him love and support and
rejoice in his many achievements; and

WHEREAS, In 2012, U.S. Air Force Airman Second Class Karl Grantier
was honored with the Good Conduct Medal and a Cold War Recognition
Certificate; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize and honor those citizens of this great Empire State who work
so assiduously for the betterment of their communities; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Karl Grantier upon the occasion of receiving the 2017 Alfred
Almond Alumni Association's Outstanding Service Award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Karl Grantier.
