COMMEMORATING the 60th Anniversary of the 500
Block MacDonough Street Association on July 8, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations which contribute to the improvement
and enhancement of the quality of life in the communities they
represent; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the 500 Block MacDonough Street
Association, to be celebrated at its Annual Block Party on Saturday,
July 8, 2017, in Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious event will also be recognized with the
co-naming of MacDonough street as Jackie Robinson Way, in honor of
Jackie Robinson, an iconic symbol of change for African-Americans in
professional sports, and an advocate for social change; and

WHEREAS, The 500 Block MacDonough Street Association is a civic
organization established to foster a sense of community, civic
responsibility and pride in its block by improving the quality of life
for all residents; and

WHEREAS, Located on MacDonough Street between Ralph and Patchen
Avenues, the 500 Block MacDonough Street Association is actively
involved in Community Board 3, the 81st Precinct Council and the
Stuyvesant East Preservation Action League for landmark status; and

WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of President Stefani Zinerman,
the 500 Block MacDonough Street Association has worked diligently to
make a positive difference in the Stuyvesant East area of Bedford
Stuyvesant through civic engagement, economic development, and
beautification initiatives; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proudly moved to honor and commend
the 500 Block MacDonough Street Association, which has labored so
conscientiously to secure and improve the quality of life for the
residents and community it serves, noting the significance of its
unremitting efforts to build a commonality of interest and pride of
cooperative achievement, inherent in the values of community and family
life; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the 500 Block MacDonough Street
Association on July 8, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Stefani Zinerman, President, 500 Block MacDonough Street
Association.
