COMMENDING Inspector William Murphy upon the
occasion of his retirement after 42 years of
dedicated service to the Suffolk County Police
Department on July 17, 2017
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote
themselves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence
in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their
communities and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Inspector
William Murphy upon the occasion of his retirement after 42 years of
dedicated service to the Suffolk County Police Department to be
celebrated at a party held in his honor on Monday, July 17, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Inspector William Murphy, the Commanding Officer of the 6th
Precinct was appointed to the Suffolk County Police Department on March
19, 1975; during his long and distinguished career, he has served at
different ranks in numerous capacities including Police Officer: 3rd
Precinct, Marine Bureau and Personnel Section; Sergeant: 5th Precinct
and the Chief of Patrol's Office; Lieutenant: 4th Precinct, 5th
Precinct, and 6th Precinct; Captain: Central Records Section, Special
Projects Section, Management Analysis Bureau, Communications Section,
4th Precinct, 7th Precinct, and District Commander; Deputy Inspector:
Communications, Records and Data Bureau, 4th Precinct, Staff Services
Bureau and Police Academy; Inspector: 4th Precinct, Homeland Security,
and the 6th Precinct, where he is currently working; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his profession and community, Inspector
William Murphy is a vital member of various police associations,
fraternal groups, and charitable organizations; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his four children, and his 11
grandchildren, all of whom have shown him love and support and rejoice
in his many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Inspector William Murphy upon the occasion of his retirement
after 42 years of dedicated service to the Suffolk County Police
Department on July 17, 2017; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Inspector William Murphy.
