HONORING Henry Euler upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal, the
highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
York State Senate

WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons and
organizations that provide exemplary service, whether through
participation in voluntary programs, through unique personal achievement
in their profession or other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of
good citizenship; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Henry Euler
upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a Liberty Medal,
the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New York State
Senate; and

WHEREAS, The New York State Senate Liberty Medal was established by
resolution and is awarded to individuals who have merited special
commendation for exceptional, heroic, or humanitarian acts on behalf of
their fellow New Yorkers; and

WHEREAS, Born and raised in Bayside, New York, Henry Euler graduated
from Queens College in January of 1970; he started his esteemed career
in education as a middle school and high school mathematics teacher in
the Hicksville School District; and

WHEREAS, During that time, Henry Euler continued his education and
received his master's degree in 1973; additionally, he also did graduate
work at Hofstra University and the University of Massachusetts; and

WHEREAS, In 2003, Henry Euler retired from teaching and devoted much
of his life to community service; soon after, he became the First Vice
President of the Auburndale Improvement Association, Inc., as well as
its Zoning and Housing Chairman; and

WHEREAS, In this capacity, Henry Euler worked on the Bayside, North
Flushing and Auburndale contextual rezoning projects; and

WHEREAS, In addition, Henry Euler served as a strong advocate for
the return of a local elementary school, PS 130, for use by the local
community; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Henry Euler has held various titles
within numerous organizations including co-Chair of the Environmental
Committee of the Queens Community Board 11, and Board of Directors of
the Bayside Historical Society; is he also an an active member of the
Queens Preservation Council; and


WHEREAS, For the last 11 years, Henry Euler has held the position of
Secretary of the Olde Towne of Flushing Burial Ground Conservancy;
throughout his tenure, he has been instrumental in rehabilitating the
site after it was discovered that approximately 1,000 people of mostly
African-American and native American descent were buried there; and

WHEREAS, Currently, this vital organization is working to install
fitting memorial stones to identify the known dead buried at the site
and to remember all of those interred with honor and respect; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Henry Euler upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the New
York State Senate; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Henry Euler.
