COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scout
Troop 99, Brooklyn, New York, on June 24, 2017

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those organizations that are devoted to instilling in
youth the values of community service and civic responsibility; and

WHEREAS, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and its members are dedicated
to the development of character and leadership in the youth of this
Nation; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scout Troop 99, Brooklyn, New
York, to be celebrated with a dinner on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at the
Saint Athanasius School Parish Hall in Brooklyn; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious event will celebrate the leadership the
Troop 99 Scouting Program has provided to the youth and the community in
Brooklyn for 100 years; and

WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1910, the Boy Scouts of America has
provided boys and young men the opportunities to learn skills and to
take part in adventures; a Scout learns to camp and hike, and how to
live in the outdoors; a Scout also learns about the world around us and
studies citizenship in the community, in the Nation, and in the world;
and

WHEREAS, In addition, scouting gives a boy the experiences and
responsibilities to help him mature as a strong and confident adult;
scouting is a doorway to lifelong friendships; and

WHEREAS, Founded in 1916 in Park Slope, Brooklyn, by Saint John's
Lutheran Church and rechartered by Saint Athanasius R.C. Church in 2001,
the young men of Boy Scout Troop 99 have been helping their community
through many generations, through good times and tough times, through
war times and peace times; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Troop 99 scouters have held positions
including District Chairman, Commissioner, District Staff as well as
Council Executive board members; and

WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of its Scoutmaster, the Troop
is forging ahead stronger than ever in their commitment to give quality
scouting and developing the leaders of tomorrow; and

WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 99 has developed a proud history, and has
maintained the traditional values of Scouting for the last 100 years;
additionally, it has invigorated Scouting from Park Slope to
Bensonhurst, New York, and has upheld the Oath and Law of the Boy Scouts
of America; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to add its commendation and
congratulations on this notable occasion, recognizing the exemplary
efforts and promising future of Troop 99 and its dedicated leadership
who have given so selflessly, with meritorious achievement, in
contributing to the education and development of the youth of their
community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scout Troop 99, Brooklyn, New
York, on June 24, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Boy Scout Troop 99.
