HONORING Kathleen McLean upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Harriet Rifkin
Leadership Award by the Capital District Women's
Employment & Resource Center on October 3, 2017

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in the communities across
New York State is reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of
those individuals who would devote themselves to the advancement of the
community and its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Kathleen
McLean upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Harriet
Rifkin Leadership Award by the Capital District Women's Employment &
Resource Center, to be celebrated at its 13th Annual Awards Luncheon on
Tuesday, October 3, 2017, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Troy, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Women's Employment & Resource Center (WERC) is a
not-for-profit organization which assists women in improving significant
self-attributes in order to successfully rejoin the workforce; each
year, this vital organization provides services to at least 300 women in
the Capital District; and

WHEREAS, Kathleen McLean is being honored with this auspicious award
in recognition of her outstanding leadership, volunteerism,
professionalism, and her work creating opportunities for women to
achieve personal and financial independence; and

WHEREAS, A sought-after consultant, motivational speaker, trainer,
facilitator, and executive coach, Kathleen McLean serves as President
and CEO of The McLean Group, a New York State certified Minority
Women-Owned consulting firm that partners with organizations to create
customized solutions for diversity/inclusion, team building and
leadership development; and

WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to her
community, Kathleen McLean is a volunteer with the Girl Scouts of
Northeastern New York and the Capital Region Women of Color Professional
Network; she is also on the Advisory Board of Mission Accomplished
Transition Services and the Resourceful Women's Leadership Steering
Committee for the YWCA-GCR; and

WHEREAS, Furthermore, Kathleen McLean has been a mentor to countless
women throughout the Capital Region and beyond, and has served on the
Board of Directors for numerous local organizations; and

WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Kathleen
McLean was recognized as a Community Star by Mission Accomplished
Transition Services for her volunteerism and support; in addition, she
was selected as an Adult Achiever for her dedication to improving the
lives of young people across the Capital District for the YMCA Black and
Latino Achievers Program; and

WHEREAS, Kathleen McLean earned a Bachelor's degree in Social Work
from Buffalo State College, a Master's degree in Social Work with a
concentration in Management from the State University at Albany, and a
Master in Business Administration from SUNY Empire State College; she
also holds a Diversity Training Certificate through Diversity Training
University International and serves as an Adjunct Instructor at Russell
Sage College; and

WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband of 25 years and
their four children, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her
life and rejoice in her accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Kathleen McLean has displayed
throughout her life; and

WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Kathleen McLean, that future generations may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent deeds, and the respect and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kathleen McLean upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Harriet Rifkin Leadership Award by the Capital District Women's
Employment & Resource Center; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Kathleen McLean.
