Senate Resolution No. 3144

MOURNING the death of Clarke E. Eaton, Jr.
visionary, businessman, and devoted member of his
community
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay proper
tribute to individuals of great character whose lives exemplify the
highest ideals of humanity; and
WHEREAS, With deep regret this Legislative Body records the passing
of Clarke E. Eaton, Jr., on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at the age of
83, noting the loss of a citizen whose purposeful life and endeavors
contributed so much to the quality of life in his community; and
WHEREAS, Well-known within the City of Buffalo and the surrounding
suburbs, Clarke E. Eaton, Jr. served as the manager of the City of
Buffalo Public Works Division; in 1982, he established Eaton Associates,
Inc., a construction management firm; and
WHEREAS, Clarke E. Eaton, Jr. will gratefully be remembered by many
for his steadfast work with the Restore Our Community Coalition (ROCC),
a group of concerned citizens and organizations which diligently strive
to remediate the devastation caused by the construction of Route 33 in
Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, Clark E. Eaton, Jr. has been the visionary behind this
important community project since 1990, when Eaton Associates, Inc.
became involved in the conversations for recreating Humboldt Parkway;
and
WHEREAS, Through his leadership, this vital organization envisions a
return to the previous splendor and greenery of the Humboldt Parkway,
instead of the current Kensington Expressway; and
WHEREAS, Since then, ROCC has partnered with many local
organizations; secured foundation funding to further its studies;
received funding from Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to further its vision;
and gained support from various businesses, non-profit organizations,
and New York State legislators; and
WHEREAS, Clarke E. Eaton, Jr. is survived by his loving wife of 61
years, Dorothy Eaton; his daughter, Tanya Barnette; one grandson, Robert
Louis Barnette III; and two sisters, Elizabeth Waller and Cynthia Eaton;
as well as numerous other family members; and
WHEREAS, A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Clarke E.
Eaton, Jr.'s name is synonymous with character, dignity, intellect,
depth, and humor, qualities evident to his family and to all those who
were fortunate enough to have known him; he will be deeply missed and
truly merits the grateful tribute of this Legislative Body; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
mourn the death of Clarke E. Eaton, Jr. visionary, businessman, and
devoted member of his community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the family of Clarke E. Eaton Jr.
