COMMENDING Inspector Scott Henderson upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition
by the 81st Precinct Clergy Council at a Celebration
of Appreciation on January 28, 2017

WHEREAS, The quality and sanctity of community life are cherished
values, worthy of safeguarding, and this Legislative Body is moved to
honor those individuals who serve to preserve and protect such values,
lauding particularly their unwavering courage and dedication in the
daily performance of their duties; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote
themselves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence
in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their
communities and this great Empire State; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commend Inspector Scott Henderson upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by the 81st Precinct Clergy Council at a
Celebration of Appreciation to be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017, at
Refuge Church of God, Brooklyn, New York; and

WHEREAS, It is appropriate to recognize and commend such outstanding
law enforcement officers such as Inspector Scott Henderson for their
valued contributions to the community; and

WHEREAS, Inspector Scott Henderson was appointed to the New York
City Police Department in June of 1995, and began his illustrious career
on patrol in the 79th Precinct; in March of 2016, he was promoted to his
current position of Full Inspector assigned to the Bedford-Stuyvesant's
81st Precinct; and

WHEREAS, Prior to his promotion, Inspector Scott Henderson moved up
to Captain in March of 2007, and in February of 2012, he became
Commanding Officer of the 88th Precinct in Clinton Hill; he has also
served in Harlem, Bushwick and East New York, as well as in the
Department's housing bureau, internal affairs and school safety program;
and

WHEREAS, Inspector Scott Henderson's first full year as Commanding
Officer of the 88th Precinct was marked by a 6.5-percent drop in major
crime, including a 30-percent drop in burglaries; and

WHEREAS, According to the most recent New York Police Department
statistics, the 81st Precinct, which covers the neighborhood from Marcus
Garvey Boulevard to Saratoga Avenue and Broadway to Atlantic Avenue, has
seen a 24 percent decrease in major crimes in the last two years; and

WHEREAS, Inspector Scott Henderson holds a Bachelor of Business
Administration in Accounting from Baruch College/City University of New
York and a Master's degree from Marist College; and


WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their
exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; Inspector Scott
Henderson is such an individual; and

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those
dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the
preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due
full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be
it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Inspector Scott Henderson upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by the 81st Precinct Clergy Council at a
Celebration of Appreciation on January 28, 2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Inspector Scott Henderson.
