HONORING Jerry Flanagan upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2016 Excelsior Award
by the New York State Public High School Athletic
Association and CSEA on November 26, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those exemplary individuals within the State of New York whose personal
triumphs serve as an inspiration to all citizens; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Jerry Flanagan upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2016 Excelsior Award by the NYSPHSAA and CSEA; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion was celebrated at the NYSPHSAA
Football Championship games on Saturday, November 26, 2016, at the
Carrier Dome, Syracuse, New York; and

WHEREAS, The Excelsior Award is bestowed upon a CSEA member in a
public high school who has helped promote and foster athletic spirit in
their local school district, as well as displayed extraordinary
dedication and support of high school athletics in New York State; and

WHEREAS, Since 2001, Jerry Flanagan has worked for Long Lake Central
Schools in various capacities, including bus driver, custodian, tax
collector and claims adjustor; and

WHEREAS, Truly dedicated to the students of New York State, Jerry
Flanagan has made numerous contributions to his community; this
remarkable man has earned the respect of both students and
administrators and is well-known throughout his district for his
generosity and caring nature; and

WHEREAS, When he drives the Long Lake Football Team to away games,
Jerry Flanagan enjoys keeping a scorebook and is always available to run
a game clock or assist with other essential game operations; and

WHEREAS, Jerry Flanagan has always taken the time to get to know
each and every student he encounters and has been known to supply team
members with a case of water on hot days or pizzas before a long trip
home; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jerry Flanagan upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the 2016 Excelsior Award by the New York State Public High School
Athletic Association and CSEA; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Jerry Flanagan.
