CONGRATULATING Marianna Femia upon the occasion of
celebrating her 107th Birthday

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
congratulate Marianna Femia upon the occasion of celebrating her 107th
Birthday; and

WHEREAS, Born more than a century ago on September 26, 1910, as the
oldest of nine children to Antonio and Fortunata (Lafaro) Trunflo,
Marianna Trunflo, affectionately known as Anna, was raised and educated
in Utica, New York, graduating in 1928 from Utica Free Academy, where
she was an avid tennis player; and

WHEREAS, Anna Trunflo was united in marriage to Vincenzo "Jim" Femia
on July 14, 1945, at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church; after 38 wonderful
years of steadfast love and devotion to one another and their three
children, Jim passed away on August 12, 1983; and

WHEREAS, For nearly two decades, Anna Femia served as a bookkeeper
for Damsky's Wholesale Company, before continuing her skills to maintain
her husband's business records; and

WHEREAS, A true asset to her community, Anna Femia volunteered for
many years at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in the Gift Store; she was
recognized with the Employee Nelson Award for volunteering more than
3,900 hours, retiring at the age of 99; and

WHEREAS, Anna Femia is a devout Catholic, attending daily and Sunday
masses, Novenas and church functions at her home parish of St. Mary of
Mt. Carmel/Blessed Sacrament Church; her unwavering faith has guided her
into the loving and compassionate person she is today; and

WHEREAS, Currently a resident of The Villas in Clinton, New York,
Anna Femia is truly a woman of many hats; she has been a devoted
daughter to her parents, a loving wife, an understanding mother, a
nonnie, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend; and

WHEREAS, Anna Femia, with her zest for life, has inspired and
enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian has experienced the incredible
joys and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the
stamina and courage to savor a full life; and

WHEREAS, Anna Femia has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and


WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly
recognize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have
witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and
awesome achievements of this country during the last century, while
themselves contributing to the growth and excellence of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Marianna Femia upon the occasion of celebrating her 107th
Birthday; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Marianna Femia.
