COMMEMORATING the 60th Anniversary of the Parkway
Center on December 3, 2017

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their
past contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the
efforts of those organizations which provide essential care and
supportive services for elderly and disabled people, and serve to
enhance the quality of life for our loved ones; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Parkway Center, to be celebrated
at its Annual Holiday Party on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Twin Ponds
Golf & Country Club, New York Mills, New York; and

WHEREAS, Located in Utica, New York, the Parkway Center is a private
not-for-profit organization, whose mission is to provide programs and
services to individuals 50 years and older, empowering them to live
healthy and vibrant lives; and

WHEREAS, The Parkway Center's history dates back to 1957, and has
gone through several consolidations, with the most recent in 2005, when
the Cornhill Senior Center and ElderLife, Inc. merged to form the
Parkway Senior Center; in 2013, the name changed to the Parkway Center;
and

WHEREAS, Today, this vital organization provides services to more
than 1,000 individuals annually at its main location on Memorial
Parkway, and to over 1,200 individuals at various locations throughout
Oneida and Herkimer Counties; and

WHEREAS, The Parkway Center strives to provide programs which will
enable its seniors to remain active and independent as they age, some of
which include: health, wellness and nutrition; education; arts/music;
social/recreation; financial independence; volunteer services; veteran
services; and access to resources; and

WHEREAS, Over its distinguished 60 year history, the Parkway Center
has demonstrated continuous service to the residents and communities
which it serves; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Parkway Center is in direct correlation
to the efforts of its staff, whose involvement is, and always has been,
characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and
an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of
the organization and the community it serves; and

WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Parkway Center; and


WHEREAS, In light of its commitment, dedication and successful
efforts, it is the custom of this Legislative Body to extend its highest
commendation to the Parkway Center of Utica, New York; now, therefore,
be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Parkway Center on December 3,
2017; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to the Parkway Center.
