COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the Kiwanis
Club of Utica on September 30, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
pay tribute to those fraternal organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and

WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Kiwanis Club of Utica, which
was celebrated on Friday, September 30, 2016, at the Trackside
Restaurant, Historic Utica Train Station, Utica, New York; and

WHEREAS, Kiwanis International is a global organization of
volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community
at a time; and

WHEREAS, The six permanent objectives of Kiwanis International are
to: give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material
values of life; encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all
human relationships; promote the adoption and the application of higher
social, business, and professional standards; develop, by precept and
example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship;
provide, through Kiwanis clubs, a practical means to form enduring
friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better
communities; and cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public
opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of
righteousness, justice, patriotism, and goodwill; and

WHEREAS, Chartered on September 23, 1957, the Kiwanis Club of Utica
is a community service organization, part of the international
organization, composed of business and professional individuals who
respond to the unique needs of its community; and

WHEREAS, For a century, the dedicated men and women of the Kiwanis
Club of Utica have been performing various community service projects to
help serve children; today, the Club sponsors two service leadership
organizations for youth including Key Club at Proctor High School in
Utica, New York, and Circle K Club at Utica College; and

WHEREAS, The Kiwanis Club of Utica participates in a variety of
projects throughout the year which involve fundraising, community
service, and assisting children locally and worldwide; and

WHEREAS, True to its mission of "Serving the Children of the World,"
the members of the Kiwanis Club of Utica are dedicated to students by
acknowledging music students from local high schools for their
excellence through the Utica Symphony League Awards, supporting a Sports
Award Luncheon for local college athletes as well as planning a
Christmas Party for third graders and middle school students from local
schools; and

WHEREAS, Dedicated to the betterment of its community, the Kiwanis
Club of Utica provides local programs and projects including Bingo, a
program geared for seniors, a Boilermaker Water Station which aids race
participants, and a Prayer Breakfast for local community leaders; and

WHEREAS, In addition, the Kiwanis Club of Utica provides speakers at
its weekly meetings to explore topics of interest to the membership; the
Club also engages in a number of social activities to share experiences,
talents and collective interests which represent great opportunities for
service, friendships and personal growth; and

WHEREAS, Today, under the luminous leadership of President, Anita
Cadez, Vice President, Robert Peterson, Secretary, Diana
Eisbrenner-Griswold, Treasurer, Cliff Willner, and vital members of the
Kiwanis Club of Utica, which include Thomas Bommarito, Jill Bowker,
Chilli Crank, Les Gilbert, Andre Laubach, Mary Novak, Kelley Parise,
Alan Sanborn, Doug Tull, as well as Jerry Webb continue to build and
change the world, one child and one community at a time; and

WHEREAS, Organizations of singular distinction such as the Kiwanis
Club of Utica, provide a model for enhancing the quality of life in the
community and, as such, merit the grateful praise of the community of
the State of New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Kiwanis Club of Utica on
September 30, 2016; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Anita Cadez, President, Kiwanis Club of Utica.
