COMMEMORATING the 85th Anniversary of Mazurek's
Bakery of Buffalo, New York
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
businesses and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is also the intent of this Legislative Body to recognize
and commend those who work to better their local community and work hard
to keep a local tradition alive; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to
commemorate the 85th Anniversary of Mazurek's Bakery of Buffalo, New
York; and
WHEREAS, For 85 years, Mazurek's Bakery has offered its loyal
Buffalo area customers the finest quality foods and products, and the
highest standards of service; and
WHEREAS, Located at 543 South Park Avenue in the First Ward
neighborhood, Mazurek's operates a full-line bakery with an emphasis on
Polish style rye bread, pastries, cookies, and decorated cakes; and
WHEREAS, After buying the building which used to house the South
Side Bakery, the late Frank and Jeanne Mazurek opened Mazurek's Bakery
in 1933; at that time it was considered a daring move since the building
was located in a predominately Irish neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, However, Mazurek's Bakery soon made a name for itself,
offering its clientele classic Polish specialties such as cheesecake,
placzek, and poppy seed logs; and
WHEREAS, Frank and Jeanne Mazurek's son, Jack started working in the
bakery during high school and took over the baking operations with his
uncle when his father became ill; and
WHEREAS, Jack Mazurek then married his wife, Carol, who worked in
the storefront, and together, they assumed ownership of the business in
1992; and
WHEREAS, After the second generation owners retired, Ty Reynolds and
Nick Smith bought the bakery in 2012; today, the duo continue to use the
same equipment and original recipes the Mazurek's used for decades; they
strive to continue their namesake's legacy by offering their customers
beautiful, fresh and quality products; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body
acknowledges this exceptional business and its contributions to the
local and State economies, fully confident it will continue to enjoy the
sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
businesses within the State of New York which contribute to the economic
health and vitality of the communities they serve; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate Mazurek's Bakery upon the occasion of celebrating its 85th
Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Ty Reynolds and Nick Smith, Owners, Mazurek's Bakery.
