HONORING Anne Palmer upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the Trowell-Harris
Leadership Mentor Award on February 4, 2017
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made
significant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Anne Palmer has given not only of her time and energies but
also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Anne Palmer
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Trowell-Harris
Leadership Mentor Award, to be celebrated at its 19th Annual Tuition
Assistance Awards Gala on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at Anthony's Pier
9, New Windsor, New York; and
WHEREAS, An internationally recognized trainer, clarity expert,
speaker and author, Anne Palmer is the daughter of trailblazing parents;
she learned from her pioneering Tuskegee Airman father and Head Start
teacher-trainer mother, what it meant to be a leader and leave a lasting
legacy; and
WHEREAS, Anne Palmer is the author of the Amazon Best-Selling book
The Gifted Trap..."E.M.E.R.G.E. From Gifted to Great, a revealing
exploration into the world of gifted and talented adults who are living
"less than" lives; and
WHEREAS, This extraordinary woman's legacy also includes making a
profound difference as a leader in the corporate, non-profit, fashion,
aging services, sports and entertainment, as well as personal growth and
development arenas; and
WHEREAS, Previously a non-profit executive, Anne Palmer served as
Vice President of Development in higher education at the State
University of New York at New Paltz, and subsequently in the aging
service industry; in 2000, she launched the still thriving Community
Foundation of Orange & Sullivan Counties in the Hudson Valley region of
New York, as its founding CEO and Executive Director; and
WHEREAS, An Emmy-award-winning talk show host and corporate
spokesperson, Anne Palmer has been using her commanding presence and
voice to communicate messages for renowned organizations including PNC
Bank, US Airways, Carnegie Museum, VanGogh Museum (Amsterdam), Kettering
Foundation's National Issues Forum, Oracle, and the global health and
wellness company, Isagenix; and
WHEREAS, Anne Palmer also serves as an inspirational keynote
speaker, using her voice and passion to empower gifted adults, employees
and members within various organizations; audiences walk away from her
talks transformed, eager to find their own voice, and emboldened to
enthusiastically claim the greatness they are capable of achieving; and
WHEREAS, A valued and involved member of her community, Anne Palmer
has served on numerous boards in leadership capacities, including the
Orange County Partnership, SUNY New Paltz Foundation, the Community
Foundation of Orange County and the Orange County Parks Master Plan Task
Force; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Anne Palmer was instrumental in founding the
non-profit Institute of Leadership and Management at SUNY Orange; she is
especially committed to impacting the lives of young people through her
work with youth mentoring programs such as Year Up; and
WHEREAS, Anne Palmer graduated magna cum laude from Howard
University in Washington, D.C.; she also studied business communications
at Emerson College, and completed post-graduate work in journalism at
Penn State University; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her two children, both of
whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice in her
achievements; and
WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their
commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to
Anne Palmer, that future generations may know and appreciate their
admirable character, their many benevolent deeds, and their respect and
esteem in which they are held by their peers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anne Palmer upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Trowell-Harris Leadership Mentor Award on February 4, 2017; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Anne Palmer.
